What a way for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to mark being crowned his country’s Player of the Year.

Hojbjerg was awarded Denmark’s Player of the Year last week and followed up that award with a stunning display last night.

The 25-year-old, a £15 million signing by Tottenham last summer, scored a goal and set up another in helping his country to a 4-0 win away to Austria in World Cup qualifying.

And here’s how some fans of the North London club reacted to his heroics on Twitter:

What a good signing Hojbjerg has proven himself to be for the Lilywhites.

Firstly, signing him for just £15 million is a major steal when you consider his influence and age, because he is only going to improve over the coming years.

His importance to Tottenham was summed up last month when Jose Mourinho’s side lost 3-0 away to Dinamo Zagreb to get dumped out of the Europa League, a game that Hojbjerg was suspended for.

Spurs are a different side when their midfield general is unavailable and Mourinho will hope that the former Southampton star can help his team to a top-four finish this season.

As things stand, Tottenham are sixth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
