Kieran Trippier has hit out at how Harry Kane is treated at times and stated that criticism towards the Tottenham striker ‘gets to me’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
The Newcastle defender added that what comes Kane’s way doesn’t get to the player himself because he is ‘the best professional he has ever worked with.
Trippier shared a dressing room with Kane on a weekly basis in north London and he watched him first-hand grow into one of the world’s best defenders.
The duo also worked their magic for England, including reaching the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup and the final of Euro 2020.
Nonetheless, this is what Trippier had to say about Kane and the stick he gets.
“Harry’s Harry, but it gets to me when people are criticising him because Harry’s a goalscorer,” said Trippier. “He always will be.
“Strikers go through periods of not scoring. But I would back Harry to score so many goals. Like he has shown throughout his career. He was unbelievable against Manchester City, not just his goals. But the way he plays. When he is dropping deep and bringing other players into it.
“He has got everything. His range of passing. And he’s shown why he is the best against Man City.
“It’s like he has to keep proving people wrong. Harry doesn’t let it get to him. He is a top professional. He believes in himself and I believe in him – he is the best professional I have ever worked with.”

That performance at Man City might have been one of the best individual performances of the season from Kane, but he’s the shadow of the player that he was last term.
Under Jose Mourinho, he was the Premier League’s top-scorer and assist-maker in perhaps his best-ever season as a professional.
But along came the mess of Manchester City in the summer and Kane has just fallen off the footballing cliff.
Now and again he might spark, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if this is his final campaign as a Spurs player, especially if Daniel Levy doesn’t back Antonio Conte as much as he should.
