Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after watching John Stones receive a red card in Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa last night.

The 26-year-old earned himself a yellow card for a late, high, studs-up challenge on Jacob Ramsey at Villa Park.

However, after checking the VAR monitor, Peter Banks upgraded it to a straight red card, meaning Stones has received a three-match ban.

As a result, he will miss Manchester City’s trip to Wembley this Sunday, where they face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup final.

You might argue that this isn’t too much of a blow for Pep Guardiola.

Why? Well, the Citizens can call upon £57 million man Aymeric Laporte to step in, or failing that, Nathan Ake, who cost £40 million.

Both are quality players who should still be able to do a job for Guardiola.

However, Stones is one of the Spaniard’s key men.

The 42-cap England international has started 20 Premier League games this season, striking up a brilliant partnership with Ruben Dias.

In that respect, his absence could hand Tottenham a slight advantage at Wembley this Sunday.

Ryan Mason will surely be praying that Harry Kane is available to help Spurs take maximum advantage of this situation.

The Tottenham talisman missed yesterday’s win over Southampton, and is in a race against time to be fit for the Carabao Cup final.

Let’s see how the Tottenham fans reacted after hearing that Stones will miss Sunday’s showpiece event…
