According to Danish newspaper BT, Everton and Sunderland are both interested in signing Copenhagen striker Federico Santander in January.

The Toffees have one star striker already in Romelu Lukaku, but there are questions over his long-term future at Goodison Park, whilst deadline day signing Enner Valencia has done little to impress so far.

Arouna Kone and Oumar Niasse haven’t proven themselves as top Premier League strikers, and manager Ronald Koeman may be forced to bring in another striker either in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, Sunderland have little support for star striker Jermain Defoe, and if they are to stay in the Premier League, manager David Moyes may need to sign a goalscorer to go along with Defoe and recent signing Victor Anichebe.

With that in mind, reports from Danish newspaper BT suggest that Everton and Sunderland have both set their sights on Copenhagen striker Federico Santander.

Santander may not be a household name for Everton and Sunderland, so here are five facts to help you get to know the striker…

1. Santander was a young star in his native Paraguay, as he scored 18 times in 57 times for Guarani, and had a trial with AC Milan before penning a deal with Toulouse.

2. Having failed to settle with Toulouse, Racing Club and Tigre, Santander headed back to Paraguay with Guarani, where his 16 goals in 40 games earned him a move to Copenhagen.

3. Now 25, Santander hit 14 goals last season and has already found the net four time this term, including one in Copenhagen’s 4-0 Champions League win over Club Brugge on Tuesday evening.

4. Despite his successes, Santander has earned just six caps for Paraguay, scoring just the one goal as he has faced competition from the likes of Roque Santa Cruz, Nelson Haedo Valdez, Oscar Cardozo and now Antonio Sanabria.

5. A strong striker with great aerial ability, Santander stands at 6ft 2in tall, and would offer Sunderland a more direct option in their attacking options, whilst he wouldn’t be the first player to move from Copehagen to Everton following Bryan Oviedo’s 2012 move.
