Newcastle have in recent weeks been linked with Chelsea striker Timo Werner, and now La Liga giants FC Barcelona have entered the race for the attacker.
According to ESPN, the Catalan side are keen on the Germany international, as well as Hakim Ziyech, as alternatives to Raheem Sterling. With Xavi Hernandez keen to strengthen Barcelona’s attack.
Werner has been on Newcastle’s radar as well, however, the Toon now face competition from Barcelona for the 25-year-old forward. The attacker only joined Chelsea last year for a reported fee of £46m.
Indeed, the former RB Leipzig star is unlikely to leave Chelsea in 2022. However, interest from Newcastle and now Barcelona could tempt Werner to depart west London.
The forward has largely been used as a bench player this season following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku and injury issues. And a change of scenery could be needed for Werner.
Whilst Newcastle would be outside contenders for Werner, Barcelona would no doubt favour themselves to sign the Germany star. And their fans are keen on the transfer.
