Charlie Adam made it clear that Rangers need to ‘get rid’ of Alfredo Morelos even if it means selling him for £8-12 million, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

BBC Scotland journalist, Tom English, suggested to Adam that Rangers wouldn’t go ‘anywhere near’ that sort of offer, as they would be looking for a fee ‘closer to £20 million’ for their star man.

Sky Sports recently reported that French outfit Lille are interested in Morelos and the player has seemingly agreed terms with the Ligue 1 side.

The BBC Radio 5 panel were discussing Morelos when Chris Sutton asked Adam whether he trusts the Rangers hitman.

“Nah, I’d get rid of him,” Adam told BBC Radio 5 Live. “If the money comes in for him, I’d get rid of him now.

Tom English then asks, “How much is enough money? You are talking about a guy who could get you between 25-30 goals,” to which Adam responds: “I think anything between, so you are in a Covid, so anything between £8-12 million and you have to take it.

“You aren’t going to get £15 million [for Morelos] and you aren’t going to get £20 million. Anything between £8-12 million, you have got to take it and get rid of him and move on.

English responded: “I don’t think they [the Rangers board] would go anywhere near an offer of £8-12 million. It would have to be closer to £20 million. This is their best player.”

“This is their best player,” Adam said in agreement. “You have got to remember the market they are in, at the moment. Are they going to have to bite the bullet or go with him again?”

Even if a respectable offer does come in for Morelos, this current situation doesn’t help Steven Gerrard’s cause.

This is the season of all seasons for the Old Firm duo given what is at stake and the last thing Gerrard needs is to replace his striker with the season starting at the weekend.

As things stand, Morelos is a Rangers player and Gerrard will be hoping this can be the start of his squad stopping Celtic from winning a historic ten-in-a-row.
