Paul Scholes told Premier League Productions (28/02/21 at 9:55 pm) that Jack Grealish needs to leave Aston Villa to prove himself.
The Manchester United legend was discussing whether Villa’s expert ball-carrier is a contender for Player of the Season.
The boyhood Villa fan has produced numerous high-quality performances this season, which has resulted in his previously relegation-threatened side now pushing for Europe.
Scholes claimed that Grealish doesn’t make his top five list because there is ‘no pressure’ at Villa to perform, but he did make it clear that he thinks he is a ‘great player’.
“I love him and I think he’s a great player,” said Scholes. “Very talented. And done it in a decent team in Villa.
On Grealish being in his top 5 players this season: “No. Don’t get me wrong, I love the player but if he was doing this at Man United, Man City, Liverpool, one of the top clubs then he would be up there. He would possibly be top three.
“There’s no pressure on Villa. Where’s the pressure on Villa? If he’s at a top club then he needs to win every week. He needs to leave Villa to prove it.
“I don’t question the lad’s ability one bit. I just want to see him do it at a top club. I think Villa are a great club – He needs to get out to a club that needs to win every week. There is pressure on him to win every week, win trophies and deliver titles. I think he’s capable of doing it but there will always be doubt until he does it.”

After scoring the vital goal at West Ham that kept Villa in the Premier League last season, Grealish has taken his game to another level this term, along with his teammates.
The England international has supplied ten assists and has also created the most chances in the Premier League.
It’s performances, alongside Villa’s much-improved defence and summer signings, that could result in Dean Smith’s men taking trips to Europe next term.
