Chris Sutton has criticised Leeds United player for seemingly ‘celebrating’ their 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former striker also took a pop at Jesse Marsch for his ‘old excuses’ following the conclusion of that feisty Premier League encounter.

Leeds were reduced to ten men at the start of the second half when Luis Sinisterra was shown two yellow cards in quick succession – the latter for stopping Villa from taking a quick free-kick.

Marsch wasn’t a happy individual after the game, as he took a pop at Villa’s tactics, but Steven Gerrard did fire back at his counterpart.

Either way, Sunday’s game was Leeds’ first for nearly a month, after two postponements and the international break.

Marsch spoke about that possibly playing a part in Leeds only picking up a point, although, they were down to ten men for large parts, as Sutton shared his thoughts.

“Oh, wow, the old excuses out there,” said Sutton. “Not played for a while, young team and young mistakes.

On whether Leeds should celebrate the 0-0: “Oh, come on. Are you serious?! Have you ever celebrated a 0-0 (question to Robbie Savage)? Things like that were big for you in your career.

“You clap the fans ‘thanks very much’ and get off the pitch. You don’t get the bunting out, which seems to be happening at Elland Road. Or am I just being a grumpy bloke?

“I like listening to him (Marsch), but there were a few excuses in there – you know better than that (red card to Sinisterra).

On Gerrard saying he wanted to frustrate Leeds: “I think he meant that out of respect to Leeds, as much as anything – Leeds will do it as well (time-wasting), that’s a fact.”

MARSCH TRYING TO TURN LEEDS’ SHIP

Leeds finished in the Premier League’s top ten upon their return to the big time, but it was a quite different story altogether last season.

The first port of call would be to try and avoid getting dragged down near the bottom again.

Even though the Whites lost key figures in the summer, they have reacted pretty well to Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha’s departures.

Sitting in 12th, with a game in hand on some of the teams ahead of them, three points behind Manchester United and the likes of Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Leicester and Fulham to come, Marsch will be backing his boys to put some serious points on the board during these coming weeks.
