James Milner has encouraged Liverpool players to enjoy their triumphs a little bit more than they did on Saturday.
Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties at Wembley to win the FA Cup final for the first time under Jurgen Klopp.
In doing so, the Reds are halfway toward a potential quadruple, having already won the Carabao Cup earlier in the season.
And Milner has revealed that instead of juicing the euphoria of lifting silverware for all its worth, many of his teammates were glued ot their phones upon returning to the changing room.
He told The Mirror: “You never know when it’s going to be your last. You go into the dressing room after the game and all of the lads are straight on their phones. I’m saying: ‘You’ve won the FA Cup – get off your phone!’
“Yeah, you get 40 or 50 messages but you get on the bus and you can deal with that. You are lucky to be a footballer, lucky to play in any final and to win ten medals, if you’ve said that to me at the start of my career then I’d have been pretty happy!”
Short career
Milner is certainly spoken like the most senior member of this Liverpool team, but is he wrong? Honestly, probably not.
A lot of former professionals regularly bang on about how it’s a short career and these moments should probably be drawn out as long as possible.
Remember, this is Liverpool’s first FA Cup since Klopp joined the club.
It isn’t a competiton they ever do well in apart from this season and you can understand Milner’s plea for his teammates to celebrate it a little bit more once getting over the line.
