Chris Sutton has chastised a defiant Celtic fan who believes his side will still come out on top in this season’s title race.

Callum McGregor’s own goal was the difference between the sides at Ibrox as Rangers extended their lead to 19 points at the top of the table.

Celtic still have three games in hand, but with Rangers last dropping points in September it will now take a spectacular turnaround for the champions to win a historic tenth successive title.

Neil Lennon’s men dominated the first half on Saturday and would have been two or three up at the break if it hadn’t been for superb goalkeeping from Allan McGregor, but the game turned on 62 minutes when Nir Bitton was shown a straight red card for denying Alfredo Morelos a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport after the match, Celtic fan Tommy said: “Sadly, I’m seeing the signs of their (Rangers) demise. Celtic put on a good performance, sadly the referee gave us a red card.

“Last time I was on, last year, I said how Neil should walk away because he wasn’t getting a tune out of his players.

“Since then, the players have responded and not just in this game. In the last four games of Rangers, they lost against St Mirren and then if you watch some of their games, the players are starting to drop.

“This time last season, Rangers went on a slump, within eight games they lost 13 points, and it’s purely because they ran out of gas.

“I think it’s disrespectful to say it’s all over bar the shouting.”

Celtic legend Sutton had no time for that optimism, replying: “Tommy, can I just say, Rangers have dropped four points all season.

“Let’s get in the real world.”

Celtic’s next fixture comes on Monday December 11 when they play host to Hibs, one day after Rangers meet Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
