Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after Alan Shearer posted a four-word tweet about the NUFC Supporters Trust.

As reported by the Chronicle, the NUFC Supporters Trust are attempting to buy a stake in the club, in one of the most ambitious fan projects English football has seen.

The NUFC Supporters Trust have launched The 1892 Pledge – a long-term attempt to raise enough money to buy a stake in the Magpies.

After hearing of the initiative, Shearer tweeted the following.

It’s great to see a monumental club icon with significant influence join this movement.

For too long, the dedicated Newcastle fans have watched their club be neglected with poor managerial appointments and a lack of investment in the playing staff.

It’s only right that one of the most passionate fanbases around has a say in how their club operates.

The Chronicle add that this initiative has been three years in the making, and is being described as a positive movement rather than a protest against the current regime.

The NUFC Supporters Trust are not trying to buy the club from Mike Ashley, but will only deal with whoever takes the reins from the retail tycoon.

If unsuccessful, the money raised will be donated to charities based in the North East.

What’s not to like? We wish the NUFC Supporters Trust the very best of luck.

In the meantime, let’s see how the Newcastle fans on Twitter reacted to Shearer’s four-word tweet…
