If you’re good enough, you’re old enough, as the timeless adage goes. And that’s without mentioning Jack Rodwell, Tyias Browning and Brandon Galloway. Calvert-Lewin surely won’t be far behind.
The 19-year-old, who chose Everton over Manchester United in the summer, displayed class beyond his years with a lovely volley to seal a 1-0 win against Manchester City on Sunday, sending the club’s under-23 side two points clear at the summit.
After making the 18 for the first time in last month’s 2-0 win against West Ham, a senior bow appears the inevitable next step for one of the brightest young talents in the English game, who proved his potential in an impressive loan spell with Northampton Town last year.
More goals like this certainly won’t harm his chances.
