Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Jermain Defoe’s possible return to Tottenham Hotspur would be ‘superb’ for the club, as he told Sky Sports.
The 39-year-old, who scored a mammoth 143 goals for Spurs, is set to be appointed a coach in the academy by Daniel Levy.
It is said that Defoe, who retired towards the back end of last season, will take up his new role at Hotspur Way next month, as reported by the Evening Standard.

When he was at Rangers, towards the latter stages of his time at Ibrox, he did work as a coach under Steven Gerrard, as well as continuing his playing career.
But now, it seems as though he is headed back to north London in his tracksuit, as O’Hara bigged up Tottenham’s academy and added that they are ‘one of the best clubs in the world’.
“Tottenham have one of the best academies now in the world,” said O’Hara. “I joined there when I was 17 and it was a very good academy at the time.
“But it was still behind the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal. Now, they have the facilities. They look after old players. There are a lot of old Spurs players now that are part of the coaching staff. Ones that haven’t even played in the first team.
“I think it’s great that they try to keep that love for the club. People know what it’s about. Jermain Defoe will be superb to have at the football club. Get him in.
“The young players will look up to him and he can craft his skills as well. I think the way the club is run, at the minute, and the way we are moving forward. It’s one of the best clubs in the world.”

FINDING THE NEXT HARRY KANE AND DEFOE…
Whether it’s from within the academy or purchased players, Tottenham have been blessed with some high, high-quality centre-forwards over the years.
Dimitar Berbatov was an utter genius when he had the ball at his feet, whilst Teddy Sherringham was a much-loved figure at White Hart Lane and now Harry Kane is showcasing how it’s done.
Son Heung-min is another who could be added to that list in terms of his goalscoring, no doubt, but he’s not an out-and-out forward like the above.
Either way, Defoe will be hoping to find the next goalscoring wonderkid off the block and they only have to look at Kane to realise just how it’s done.
Perhaps one of the most complete forwards in the game today, the England captain, who has 183 Premier League goals, is edging ever closer to Alan Shearer’s 260 Premier League strikes.
