Rangers are reportedly exploring the possibility of luring Alan Pardew to Ibrox.
Rangers’ search for a new manager means a host of names have already been linked with the job – and the Daily Mail now claim that Alan Pardew is in the running.
The Gers parted ways with Pedro Caixinha on Thursday afternoon, sacking the Portuguese boss after a 1-1 home draw with Kilmarnock, bringing his seven-month reign to an end.
Caixinha never truly convinced as Rangers boss, and the search is now on for a new manager, though caretaker boss Graeme Murty did oversee a 3-1 away win at Hearts on Saturday afternoon.
Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has emerged as the early favourite, but the Daily Mail have today reported that Rangers have held preliminary talks with Alan Pardew about taking the job.
It’s claimed that ‘tentative contact’ has been made between Rangers and Pardew’s representatives, with the 56-year-old emerging as a major contender to replace Caixinha.
Pardew, who lost his job at Crystal Palace last December, has been a divisive figure over the years, whilst his record of starting well before petering out and losing his job has become well known.
As a relatively notable name in recent Premier League history, links to Pardew have sparked a reaction among Rangers fans, and it’s no surprise that there is a divide between fan opinions.
Some believe that Pardew is the big name that Rangers need to challenge Celtic and Brendan Rodgers, branding him a ‘coup’ for the Gers and a better candidate for the job than McInnes.
Others aren’t quite so convinced though, believing that Pardew’s patchy record isn’t what Rangers need right now, and they would rather have a manager who understands the club, such as McInnes.
