Mateusz Bogusz is very much a forgotten man at Leeds United.
The young Polish midfielder joined Leeds almost three years ago and steadily made a name for himself in the Under-23 side.
Bogusz also impressed for Leeds on a pre-season tour in 2019, after their narrow failure to win promotion back to the Premier League.
It looked as if the Elland Road club had an absolute gem on their hands, but back-to-back loans to Segunda sides Logrones and Ibiza since then have illustrated that Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t think he’s ready for the rough and tumble of Premier League life just yet.
But the 20-year-old is making a name for himself in Spain because he has just been awarded La Liga Smart Bank’s Goal of the Month award for the second month in a row.
He scored a fine goal in the home win over Burgos in September and here’s how some fans of the Elland Road club are reacting to his gong:
Does he have a future with Leeds?
In short, yes.
United signed him to a new contract last summer before sending him on loan to Logrones, indicating that Bielsa and Victor Orta believe in him.
Remember, he’s still just a 20-year-old kid and regular football in Spain – albeit the second tier – will do wonders for his development.
That’s the purpose of a loan afterall and it’ll be fascinating to see what Bielsa makes of him next summer upon returning to West Yorkshire.
