Former Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren channeled his inner Zinedine Zidane on Tuesday night.
Lovren, who left the Reds to join Zenit St Petersburg in a £11 million deal in July, fired Croatia into a 1-0 lead over France in a Nations League clash last night.
And what a way to do it.
The 32-year-old, a Premier League champion with Liverpool last season, plucked a dropping ball out of the sky from a corner, dummied an opposition player and unleashed a fierce left-footed drive past Hugo Lloris on 17 minutes.
Virgil van Dijk is far and away the most technically-gifted central defender at Melwood – and possibly every other training complex on the planet – and it looks like Lovren learned a thing or two from his former team-mate on Merseyside.
Here’s how Liverpool fans reacted to the goal on Twitter last night:
Despite being a bombscare at times, Lovren, a World Cup finalist, was actually quite a good defender for Liverpool.
Granted, not many of the supporters will remember him for his stellar defensive displays, but the fact that he lasted six years at the club – and almost five under Jurgen Klopp himself – is testament to the fact that he was an asset for the Merseysiders.
