Garth Crooks has advised Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli to ‘get away from Jose Mourinho’ amid speculation of a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino looks set to take charge in the French capital as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement.
And according to The Sun, the Ligue 1 outfit are in advanced talks with the Argentine about taking charge – and he wants the Tottenham attacker as his first signing.
Alli has had a torrid time under Mourinho this season, managing only 75 minutes of Premier League football.
The Portuguese gave Alli a rare chance to impress in the League Cup win over Stoke City on Wednesday, but publicly threw him under the bus after his error led to the Championship side equalising.
And former Lilywhites hitman Crooks has told BBC Sport that it’s ‘vital’ for the England international to leave North London and, more importantly, leave Mourinho.
He said: “Well, in light of Thomas Tuchel’s departure, and the prospect of former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino taking over, I’ll be more than a little surprised if Alli isn’t his first signing. What is vital is Alli has to get away from Mourinho and do it now.”
Alli is clearly a much finer player than he’s been able to show under Mourinho lately.
Really, his form has been pretty poor for most of 2020 despite some early promise under the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss.
And Crooks is right – if Pochettino does want him, he’d be crazy to say no in light of his struggles in England right now.
