Leeds United fans on Twitter defended Kalvin Phillips after they felt he was receiving unnecessary stick for his England performance on Sunday evening.

The 25-year-old started in a midfield three for England, who recorded a 2-0 win against Albania in their World Cup qualifier.

Phillips, who is used to sitting as a single pivot for Leeds, played alongside the more attack-minded, Mason Mount, and West Ham’s Declan Rice as a number eight.

Leeds fans weren’t happy with the stick Phillips is getting about his performances for England.

Some pointed out that just after Phillips went off, Gareth Southgate’s men started to lose control of the game during the final 15 minutes.

Other Leeds supporters also made it clear that Phillips, playing alongside Rice in midfield, simply isn’t going to work.

West Ham fans would perhaps say the same about Rice and how to get the best out of either duo then they need to play with a Mount, Jack Grealish or Phil Foden, and not together.

But the key thing for the Elland Road faithful is that both Marcelo Bielsa and Southgate rate him highly and he continues to get picked for a reason.

Here is a selection of Leeds fans defending Phillps’ performance for England on Sunday.
