According to Italian outlet, CalcioMercatoWeb, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a move for Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The Polish goalkeeper has been one of Europe’s top stoppers for over a decade now, and he would be a brilliant replacement for Hugo Lloris as the Frenchman’s performances begin to decline with age.

However, as talented as Szczesny is, this move would be rather controversial.

Indeed, the goalkeeper is, of course, a former Arsenal player, and while he’s not a north London native, he certainly took to the idea of the rivalry with Tottenham.

Szczesny has never made any secret of the fact he doesn’t like Tottenham, bashing them on social media on a number of occasions before and after leaving Arsenal.

Perhaps the most infamous example was back in 2016 when Tottenham lost 5-1 to Newcastle United on the final day of the Premier League season, giving Arsenal the chance to finish above them in the league once again.

After this result, Szczesny posted a video on Instagram mocking Spurs, stating that he hopes he gets fined for his actions.

As you can imagine, Szczesny’s video didn’t go down well amongst Spurs supporters, and now, he’s being tracked as a potential signing.

Szczesny’s Arsenal affiliations make us think that this move is very unlikely, but as we all know, stranger things have happened – Sol Campbell proved that back in 2001.

Whether or not Szczesny ends up joining Tottenham remains to be seen, but if he does join Spurs, it’s hard to imagine that he’ll be an immediate fan favourite given his previous actions and links to Arsenal.
