Rangers only brought in Mexican international midfielder Carlos Pena over the summer, but he could already be nearing an Ibrox exit.

Former boss Pedro Caixinha swooped to sign a host of players during the summer transfer window, and his biggest signing was Pena.

The 27-year-old had earned a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder during his time in Mexico with Club Leon and Chivas Guadalajara, and Caixinha hoped to bring that to Rangers.

Fitness has been an issue for Pena throughout his time in Glasgow though, and whilst he has an impressive record of five goals in 14 games this season, he still hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.

Now, ESPN Mexico report that Pena could be on the verge of leaving Rangers already, with Caixinha hoping to take him on loan to his new club in Mexico, Cruz Azul.

Rangers may be open to the deal, but fans on Twitter are somewhat split on whether Pena should be allowed to leave Ibrox so quickly.

Some believe that Pena’s goalscoring record means that he clearly has the quality to succeed, and should be given more time to settle in Scotland rather than being farmed out on loan.

Others think that Pena simply isn’t suited to Scottish football, and offloading him and free up some cash to bring in other players during the January transfer window, with the split verdict summing up Pena’s time at Ibrox so far.
