The father of Flamengo’s Gerson has told Yahoo Sports that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in the playmaker.

The 22-year-old talent emerged with Fluminense before heading to Roma in 2016, but he made just 42 appearances for the club. After a loan spell with Fiorentina, he returned to Brazil in 2019 with Flamengo.

Since heading back home, Gerson has kicked on again. He has not only bagged four goals and four assists for Flamengo, but also won the Brasileiro and Copa Libertadores in 2019.

In January, O Globo reported that Tottenham wanted Gerson. Flamengo allegedly wanted €30million (£26.5million) for the midfielder, and Spurs signed Gedson Fernandes instead.

Now though, Tottenham are again being mentioned. Jose Mourinho is likely in the market for another midfielder, and Gerson would provide some skill and creativity.

Yet that fee could be an issue. Tottenham won’t have big money to spend this summer amid the ongoing global pandemic, so it’s hard to see them throwing more than £25million at Gerson.

Still, Gerson’s father has tackled the subject. He admitted that the rumours about Spurs and Borussia Dortmund are true, but added Arsenal into the mix.

Raul Sanllehi is allegedly driving Arsenal’s interest having wanted him at Barcelona, so we could see a North London battle for the Brazilian this summer.

“Nobody knew about Arsenal, but now that I’m telling you, everyone will know,” said Marcos Santos. “Everyone you hear there is true. But they only probed,” he added when asked about Dortmund and Spurs.
