Gerry Francis claims Tottenham Hotspur have a weakness in the full-back positions

Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Borussia Dortmund to Wembley for their Champions League clash on Wednesday night.

Gerry Francis has warned Tottenham that Borussia Dortmund will not miss the chances Leicester City did on Sunday as he identified their weakness in the full-back area.

Former midfielder Francis stated that Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to allow both full-backs to push forward at the same time is ‘fine’, but a midfielder has to drop in between the centre-backs to try and cover the space left in behind.

Over the weekend, Spurs beat Leicester 3-1 at Wembley, but the away side did miss a number of guilt edge opportunities, especially winger Harvey Barnes.

Now, they will face Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League knockout tie on Wednesday night, with the German club possessing a number of high-quality attackers.

Ahead of that clash, Francis explained what his former club must do in order to nullify that weakness as he warned that Dortmund won’t let them off like their weekend opponents did.

“They have a weakness,” Francis told Sky Sports News on 10/02/2019. “They push both fullbacks forward at the same time, which is fine, but generally you would have a midfield player come & sit in between the two centre-halves & split them.

“Certainly something he [Pochettino] will be looking at. Dortmund aren’t going to miss them chances, not with there quality.”

One of the more familiar and standout players Dortmund will have in their attacking ranks is highly-rated teenager Jadon Sancho.

The 18-year-old will know some of the Tottenham players from his brief time with the England national team after he made his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side after their successful World Cup campaign in Russia.

Nonetheless, over the course of this season, Sancho has played 28 games in all competitions for his side, scoring eight goals and supplying his teammates with 13 assists, according to transfermarkt.

Despite being without a number of their key players in Harry Kane and Dele Alli, Pochettino will be hoping his team can muster a positive result going into the second leg.
