Steven Gerrard has sent a message to a former Liverpool team-mate about Rangers defender Borna Barisic.
Barisic is one of Rangers’ most important players after bagging a massive 14 assists from a left-back role last term.
But the 27-year-old is on international duty with Croatia right now and Gers boss Gerrard will be desperate to see him return to Ibrox unscathed following the international break.
With the light Blues aiming to stop Celtic from winning 10-in-a-row, Gerrard can’t afford any serious injury to major personnel like Barisic.
And the Liverpool icon has sent an Instagram message to Dejan Lovren, asking him to ‘look after’ the former Osijek star on international duty.
Lovren, who left the Reds after winning the Premier League earlier this summer, responded: “As always Stevie. He will come back tougher.”
This is a worrying time for managers of club teams.
Not only do they have to be concerned about injury, as they always are during international breaks, but there’s also the potential that one of their players contracts the coronavirus, which can have serious knock-on effects at domestic level.
But there is plenty of measures put in place and hopefully for Rangers, all of their international players return unscathed and ready to resume the Premiership season.
The Gers are back in action next Saturday when Dundee United visit Glasgow.
