Scottish Premiership club Glasgow Rangers have been tipped to cash in on the goal-scoring midfielder but he should remain at Ibrox for the long term.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

In a recent report from the Scottish Sun, it was claimed that new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard may be tempted to cash in on Josh Windass this summer, but that would be foolish in the extreme.

Gerrard arrives at Ibrox with a massive job on his hands, with the ultimate intention to usurp Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership and oversee a prolonged spell of success for a Gers side that have been second (or third) best for too long.

While it is likely that a number of new players will arrive at Rangers this summer, their new manager must also ensure he keeps the best talent currently at the club and, despite his inconsistencies, Windass certainly falls into that category.

This season the 24-year-old has scored 17 goals and set up eight more, and without him Rangers would have been in even more of a mess than they found themselves at certain points in a turbulent campaign.

Gerrard knows a thing or two about what it takes to score regularly from midfield and, under his tutelage, Windass could reach another level.

The Rangers player clearly has the natural talent and is still a few years away from his peak, so what better place to reach that than at a Gers side led by one of the best midfielders of his generation?

It is easy to brand Windass a player on borrowed time as he is yet to win over all his club’s supporters despite his transformation this season. Yet Gerrard would be foolish to cash in on someone who could, with a nudge in the right direction, become a catalyst for Rangers’ title tilt next season and beyond.
