Rangers have seen their wingers thrive under Steven Gerrard of late.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the club’s official website that he and his staff made a plan over the summer to focus on wing play at Ibrox.
The Gers have been hugely impressive under Gerrard, losing just once in all competitions whilst even making it all the way to the group stage of the Europa League.
Gerrard has earned huge praise for his early work at Rangers, and it’s somewhat stunning that he has taken to management so effortlessly so far.
Now, Gerrard has told the club’s official website that he and his staff had a very clear plan over the summer to push for exciting wing play, as he wanted to get fans on the edge of their seats.
Gerrard noted that the club have a great history with wingers, and he and his staff wanted to get great supply into the box from wide areas – but still wants his wide men to do their defensive duties too.
“This club, over the years with the history, has always produced fantastic wingers and has always had good combinations out wide to get the fans on the edge of their seats,” said Gerrard. “That was certainly a plan of ours as a staff – we want exciting wingers, we want to be creative out wide and we also want to put good service and delivery into the box. If we can get that from all our players in possession and if we can get that creativity and that balance I am sure it will work for us.”
“But at the same time, for me and for this team, you also have to do it out of possession. So when we haven’t got the ball, we have to work hard, we have to hunt it down and you have to buy in to the work ethic throughout the team. You can’t just have it for defenders and central players,” he added.

So far, it’s fair to say that Gerrard’s plan is working. Three wingers signed deals with Rangers this summer in Jamie Murphy, Ryan Kent and Eros Grezda, though the season-ending injury to Murphy last month was a major blow.
Grezda looks to be an exciting talent, whilst Liverpool loanee Kent has turned in some fine performances of late, and now appears to be finding his best form in Gerrard’s 4-3-3 system which places great emphasis on the wingers.
With teenager Glenn Middleton and veteran Daniel Candeias thriving too, Gerrard’s plan is working to perfection right now – and Gers fans can seemingly expect wingers to be vital under the current boss.
