Steven Gerrard is confident that Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos has his hunger back.
The 24-year-old became the Gers’ most prolific marksmen in their history of European football on Thursday by scoring in the 3-3 draw away to Benfica.
Morelos fired Rangers into a 3-1 lead early in the second half for what was his 22nd goal in 37 Europa League outings, eclipsing Ally McCoist’s record for the light Blues.
The Colombian had a dismal second half to the campaign last term, scoring just the once when the winter break ended in Scotland.
But with seven goals this season – and four in Europe – Gerrard said to the club’s official Twitter account that the Rangers attacker has a smile back on his face in football terms.
It’s a bit odd that Morelos is Rangers’ best goalscorer in European competition and yet hasn’t scored a single goal against Celtic, after joining in 2017.
Then again, nobody at Ibrox will care about his struggles against the Hoops if he scores against everybody else en route to toppling Neil Lennon’s side domestically.
Celtic are going for 10 Premiership titles in a row and right now, you have to say that Gerrard’s boys – who are nine points clear at the summit, having played two games more – are looking really promising in regards to ending their Old Firm rivals’ dominance.
