Gerrard must consider re-signing Greg Taylor if Lee Wallace leaves in January

Rangers left back Lee Wallace is being linked with a move away from Ibrox.

Rangers have been in scintillating form under Steven Gerrard this season, and much of that is down to their impressive summer transfer business.

The Gers brought in 15 new signings over the summer and let more than 20 players leave in a major overhaul, with more players potentially exiting in January.

The Scottish Sun reported over the weekend that Wigan Athletic are keen to sign Rangers left back Lee Wallace, with a departure potentially on the cards.

Letting Wallace, 31, go would leave Rangers a little exposed at the back, with Jon Flanagan potentially better suited at right back, and Borna Barisic needing more natural cover.

With that in mind, Rangers would be wise to target one of their former youth players, as Kilmarnock ace Greg Taylor would fit in well as a replacement for Wallace.

Taylor, 20, joined the Rangers ranks in 2008 before leaving for Kilmarnock in 2014, and he has become a star at Rugby Park.

Now one of the best young full backs in Scotland, Taylor looks set for a huge future, and is one of a number of former Rangers youth products to be excelling elsewhere, such as Livingston duo Liam Kelly and Craig Halkett.

Bringing Taylor back as a Wallace replacement would set Rangers up at left back for years, giving Gerrard the ability to rotate Barisic and Taylor perfectly, whilst allowing Wallace to move on with his time at Ibrox clearly coming to an end.
