Steven Gerrard’s first move as Rangers boss should be to try and bring John Terry to Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard of BT Sport looks on during the Emirates FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on May 27, 2017 in London, England.

Steven Gerrard is in talks with Rangers over becoming their new manager and will quickly have to start formulating plans over how to transform the Ibrox club.

Rangers have been shown to be inferior to rivals Celtic and need to shake up their playing staff as well as bringing in a new manager.

Gerrard’s first move should be to call on his former England international teammate John Terry.

Terry is currently plying his trade at Aston Villa, who he is hoping to lead to promotion through the Championship play-offs.

He has shown he still has plenty left in the tank and a move to Rangers could prolong his career further.

Terry would be a replacement for veteran Bruno Alves, whose spell at Ibrox has not worked out.

The centre-back is a big character and his mere presence would help relieve some of the pressure on Gerrard.

Terry was for so long a rival of Gerrard at club level but the potential Rangers boss will be a big believer in Terry’s leadership skills.

Former Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram called on Rangers to move for John Terry two years ago, Herald Scotland reported, and Steven Gerrard would have a great chance of persuading him to take up a new challenge.

Signing the five-time Premier League title winner to go along with Gerrard would create a real buzz around Ibrox. It would be a strong start as they bid to try and catch up to a dominant Celtic.
