Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter after realising that Georginio Wijnaldum will most likely captain the team against Sheffield United this Sunday.
Back in 2018, the Evening Standard covered some news stating that the Reds have a first-choice, second-choice, third-choice and fourth-choice captain, as voted for by the squad.
In order, they were Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Virgil van Dijk and Wijnaldum.
Seeing as Henderson and Van Dijk are definitely injured, while Milner is still just returning from his own problem, it does seem likely that Wijnaldum will wear the armband.
After all, that is what happened in January’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley, with Henderson, Van Dijk and Milner all missing as the Mirror explained.

Now, a few supporters have complained about this below.
One said that the 70-cap Netherlands international is the least vocal member of Liverpool’s team, while another suggested that it might be time for a change.
However, some supporters saw sense, and accepted the decision seeing as it had been voted for by the players – that should be the bottom line, really.

Wijnaldum doesn’t seem like the shouter that Henderson and Van Dijk are, although he is clearly a well-respected member of the squad.
The 2016 signing from Newcastle is an ever-present, who leads by example, and boasts tremendous experience in a Liverpool shirt – he is a more than suitable choice to be captain.
