Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Burnley suffered a significant defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League, on a good day for Everton.

What’s the story?

Well, Frank Lampard will have been glued to proceedings at Turf Moor earlier, praying that the Clarets didn’t pull off another shock result.

Thankfully for him and Everton, Steven Gerrard managed to steer his side to a 3-1 win, leaving Burnley in real danger of being relegated.

You can see what Lineker thought of Aston Villa’s efforts in Lancashire below.

The significance of this result for Everton cannot be understated.

Had Burnley defeated the Villans, they would’ve risen to 37 points, five ahead of the Toffees and possibly one win from safety.

However, as things stand, they remain in 16th place on 34 points, giving Everton the chance to leapfrog them with a win over Leicester tomorrow.

Crucially, Everton also have two games in hand over Burnley – and one over Leeds – so Lampard can basically secure survival if he wins both of those outings.

Everton must beat Leicester

Of course, the above pretty much goes without saying, and you may accuse us of stating the obvious.

However, tomorrow’s trip to the King Power Stadium is significant, because there are some difficult fixtures afterwards.

The Foxes have also just come back from Rome in a draining UEFA Conference League semi-final, so they may not be at their sharpest.

Aside from the next game once Leicester are out of the way – which comes against the already relegated Watford – Everton face tough clashes against Brentford, Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

In truth, even the meeting with Watford is a potential banana skin, as the Hornets will be playing with freedom now their fate has been sealed.

Whatever happens, Lampard will be extremely grateful to Gerrard for defeating Burnley at Turf Moor today – it could prove to be a pivotal result.
