Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Aston Villa’s goals this summer.
The Villans have gotten off to a brilliant start in the summer transfer window. They’ve already secured the signatures of Philippe Coutinho and Boubacar Kamara, and now, Steven Gerrard has another mission in mind.
This time around though, it’s nothing to do with new signings. Indeed, according to Romano, Gerrard’s number one goal now is to keep Ollie Watkins at the club amid interest from West Ham United.
What’s been said?
Romano shared what he knows about Villa’s plans.
“I asked yesterday morning and the answer I received was that Steven Gerrard is now fighting to keep Ollie Watkins at the club, there are many clubs interested like West Ham, but Gerrard is desperate to keep him, that is the mission for now, and then we will see for new signings, but it will be a nice summer and Kamara is a top signing,” Romano said.

Priority
Villa may sign a few more big names this summer, but it looks like keeping Watkins at the club is a priority at this point.
The striker has been a key player for the Midlands club for the past two seasons, and it’s clear just how much Gerrard values him in this team.
The manager wants to keep Watkins at the club, and we can absolutely understand why. There aren’t many strikers out there quite like the Englishman, and losing him to a club like West Ham would be a real blow.
West Ham are a club of similar stature to Villa, and losing a key player to Premier League rivals would be a serious setback for Gerrard and his backroom team.
Fingers crossed Gerrard can make this dream a reality.
