Rangers boss wants to bring Dominic Solanke to Ibrox.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been monitoring Dominic Solanke’s situation all summer as he considers bringing another striker to Ibrox.
The Scottish Sun reported last week that Rangers are still keen.
For now, Solanke has remained with Liverpool for pre-season, but perhaps that won’t last much longer.
Solanke performed poorly in Liverpool’s friendly with Borussia Dortmund last night, heading a chance wide from close range.
He has been outplayed this pre-season by the much maligned Daniel Sturridge and his chances of playing regularly this season for Jurgen Klopp’s side look slim this season, enhancing Rangers’ chances of a loan switch.
Some Liverpool fans last night even spoke of their desire for Solanke to be moved to Rangers:
Solanke would still be under pressure at Rangers, and would have to battle for a first team spot.
But with respect to Rangers, he will find it easier to challenge Alfredo Morelos for his spot than Roberto Firmino.
Solanke’s promising career has stalled due to playing too much youth level football and not enough at a competitive level, and he cannot afford another season on the bench at Anfield.
He may get another pre-season chance, but Steven Gerrard should be back on the phone to Liverpool today trying to follow up the Ryan Kent move by closing a deal for Solanke too.
