Gerrard confirms Rangers ‘bargain’ Glen Kamara is starting at Ibrox tonight

Rangers take on Glen Kamara’s former club Dundee at Ibrox this evening.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told The Courier that midfielder Glen Kamara will be starting against his former club Dundee tonight.

The Gers are back in action again having beaten Hamilton Academical on Sunday, which was their second 5-0 win in a row.

It’s back to Ibrox tonight, and the game sees Dundee visit Glasgow – meaning midfielder Kamara will take on his previous club.

The Finn, 23, became a star with Dundee following a move from Arsenal, and his performances convinced Rangers to strike a pre-contract agreement with him early in January.

Despite him being lined up for a summer move, Kamara’s deal was brought forward, with Rangers paying a nominal fee on deadline day to sign him instantly.

Kamara has started the last three games now; he was promising against St Johnstone, dominated Youssouf Mulumbu against Kilmarnock and was untouchable against Hamilton.

Fans are excited to see Kamara in action again, and Gerrard admitted that he will be starting the midfielder, having no reservations about playing him versus his past employers.

Gerrard noted that he knows Kamara is a bargain, calling him a top player whilst suggesting he has a point to prove whenever he plays for Rangers, not just against Dundee.

“I know it’s a bargain,” said Gerrard. “He’s a top player. He’s been schooled very well at Arsenal. Neil McCann also did an excellent job to take him to the next level while he was at Dundee. He fell out of favour with the current manager at Dundee but thankfully we got him in the door earlier than expected and we’re benefiting from that right now.”

“Glen has got a point to prove every time he pulls on a Rangers shirt. I don’t think that’s magnified just because he’s playing against his previous team. He’s spoken well about Dundee and his time there but I’m sure he’s looking forward to the fixture. He’s playing tomorrow. He just needs to go out and do what he’s been doing since he’s broken into the team, which is playing at a very high level,” he added.
