Steven Gerrard has revealed that Scott Arfield is firmly on the comeback trail for Rangers.

The former Burnley defender hasn’t kicked a ball for the Gers in almost two months due to injury.

His last game for Rangers came on December 26 in a 1-0 win over Hibs at Ibrox.

But Gerrard claims that the player impressed in what was his first full training session since then yesterday, but says that no decision has been made over whether he’ll face Kilmarnock tomorrow.

He told a press conference via the club’s Twitter account: “Scott Arfield trained yesterday with the group for the first time. We’ll make a decision on Scott later but he has missed seven weeks. He came back yesterday and was great to watch and brought real enthusiasm and personality to the session. It’s great to see him back smiling. That’s a great boost for us.”

Rangers are 18 points clear of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership race and it’s probably testament to Gerrard’s squad that they can miss a player like Arfield for so long without it negatively impacting their march toward ending their Old Firm rivals’ 10-in-a-row bid.

Don’t forget that the Ibrox outfit have also had another experienced figure in Ryan Jack missing for quite a while this season but again, the light Blues haven’t been held back.
