Leon Bailey could make his long-awaited return for Aston Villa on Sunday.
At least, that is what Steven Gerrard has told The Birmingham Mail.
Bailey joined Aston Villa in a £30 million deal under Dean Smith last summer.
But the former Bayer Leverkusen attacker hasn’t kicked a ball since early December due to a muscle injury.
However, the Villa manager has revealed that Bailey is back in full training and could even feature in Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Newcastle United.
He said: “He’s back in the group and back in full training. He’ll continue to be pushed in the coming days. He has an outside chance of being involved at the weekend, but we’ll assess that in the coming days.”
Brilliant news
Bailey has only managed one Premier League goal since arriving in the Midlands but the 24-year-old is a fantastic footballer.
Many foreign imports take their time in adapting to English football but the Jamaica international has shown enough potential to suggest he could be right at home at Bodymoor Heath in the long term.
Plus, the fact he cost £30 million is another sign of his undeniable ability and a man-manager like Gerrard just may be able to extract the best-possible performances from him.
And if he does indeed face Newcastle at the weekend then hopefully it’s the first of many more outings since returning from injury.
