Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told Rangers TV that he was ‘torn’ over who to pick in midfield against Celtic on Saturday.
The Gers produced an impressive display at Parkhead, and came away with a much-deserved 2-0 win as Connor Goldson struck an unlikely brace.
Rangers showed great patterns of play throughout, passing around Celtic at will in arguably the most impressive Old Firm display under Steven Gerrard so far.
Glen Kamara starred in midfield alongside Steven Davis and Scott Arfield, justifying Gerrard’s midfield decision as Ianis Hagi and Ryan Jack missed out.
Gerrard has admitted that Hagi deserved to play and so did Jack, meaning he was torn over who to pick and who to leave out.
In the end, Gerrard went with Kamara, Davis and Arfield because they played so well against Galatasaray, and that decision certainly paid off.
Gerrard also noted that new signing Bongani Zungu should be ready to play in around two weeks, offering an exciting hint towards the future of the Rangers midfield.
“I was torn about what team to pick,” said Gerrard. “Hagi deserved to play, Jack deserved to play. But that midfield did me ever so well against Galatasaray and I thought it would be a similar type of game.”
“To a man the three of them were outstanding and I thought Jacko came on and put in a real professional half an hour as well. So I’m delighted with the midfield and hopefully in 10-12 days time we’ve got someone to add to that as well in Zungu, who will be more ready then,” he added.
