Joachim Loew’s Germany weren’t particularly entertaining, but did enough to see off France in a 1-0 victory which sees his side reach their fourth consecutive World Cup semi final.
Manuel Neuer 8 – Looked so, so cool. Even with Karim Benzema’s shot at the end, he just stuck up his hand with almost an air of arrogance.
Philipp Lahm 7 – Always looked in control, it doesn’t matter where he plays. Distribution was totally on point too.
Mats Hummels 9 – Man of the match, brilliant header and superb tackles. One sliding block against Karim Benzema was particularly breathtaking. Never looked like he had been off ill.
Jerome Boateng 7 – Was never really tested, but when under pressure dealt with France’s attack comfortably.
Benedikt Höwedes 7 – Much like Boateng was never really put under pressure, made some really good challenges however, when he was called upon.
Mesut Özil 4 – Was missing the entire game, never saw him
Toni Kroos 6 – The passing maestro did an average job, just never really created anything cutting edge.
Bastian Schweinsteiger 6 – Tackled well and retained the ball well but didn’t apply himself, perhaps because he was under no pressure.
Sami Khedira 6 – Got really involved and played the anchor role really well, but much like his midfield partners, never created that spark the game needed.
Thomas Müller 6 – Gave himself chances with runs into good positions but was marked out the game. His passing was a highlight though.
