The Wolfsburg player was speaking about his potential move to Villa Park.
Reports this week in Germany have suggested that Aston Villa are set to sign Anton Donkor from VfL Wolfsburg. It is being reported by Bild that Villa are set to sign the player after he was told first-team football was unlikely to be offered to him at the Volkswagen Arena.
It’s reported he is set to train with Aston Villa before concluding a permanent transfer.
Now the player himself has been speaking about a potential move to Villa Park.
General view of Wolfsburg fans
Speaking to the Wolfsburger Allgemeiner Aller-Zeitung he admitted he could be on his way to Aston Villa, but not on a permanent deal.
He stated:
“Yes, my consultant has contact with Aston Villa.
“In order to further develop myself, a loan to England would surely be a good thing.
“It’s certainly an interesting possibility, but I’m not going to get the hell out of it.”
The 19-year-old winger, full name Anton-Leander Donkor-Oppong, can play on either the right or left, but prefers the latter. He can even play through the middle.
Aston Villa fans before the match
The teenager is a Germany under-20 international but he has not yet featured for the senior side at Wolfsburg. Donkor has been featuring for the Wolfsburg second team in the German lower leagues this season.
It remains to be seen whether Villa see the sense in bringing in a young player like Donkor in on loan from abroad when they have their very own talented youngsters coming through the ranks.
But it is certainly looking like a possibility.
