Pierre-Michel Lasogga had a debut to remember for Leeds United in their dominant win over Burton.
It took Lasogga just 20 minutes to score his first goal for the club and he went onto bag another in the second half.
Lasogga is on a season long loan from Hamburg, where he had fallen down the pecking order.
He needed to start playing regularly in order to re-discover the form which once saw him brought into the German national squad.
The weekend was a strong start, and Lasogga’s performance is already making headlines in his homeland.
The paper reported: “There was a standing ovation for Lasogga, the Hamburg striker has not had that for a long time.”
The Hamburg Abenblatt praised his ‘fantastic debut’, adding that the long time unsuccessful striker let loose with a ‘loud bang.’
Lasogga scored just one league goal in 20 games for Hamburg last season. For Leeds he has doubled that tally in just one game.
Sport1 reported ‘Lasogga shines on debut with Leeds’, praising the striker’s ‘brilliant’ performance.
Stern reported: “The step into the second English league has done the 1.89 meter tall attacker well. In contrast to many critics, Lasogga does not seem to have completely given up on his career.
“If the battling striker continues to play as in his debut, he could help his new club to rise. That would be a whole new role for the man, who has kept the Bundesliga club from being relegated.”
Lasogga’s contribution is certainly attracting interest in Germany, which shows something of his star power despite his recent struggle.
He looked like a player re-born against Burton, and while there will be far tougher tests to come, it looks like both Leeds and Lasogga should be thrilled with the loan deal.
