Leeds United want to sign Soren Gonther.
Leeds United have made a move to sign St Pauli captain Soren Gonther, according to respected German newspaper BILD.
Gonther’s contract expires at the end of the season and Leeds have reached out to offer him a two-year deal.
He will officially be free to sign a pre-contract agreement from January 1, and while BILD suggests it is unlikely he would move this transfer window, it is not out of the question, with Leeds wanting to tie up a deal ‘no later than the summer’.
BILD report Gonther would earn 450,000 Euros (£380,000) per year at Leeds, substantially more than his salary at St Pauli.
St Pauli fans
Gonther’s side St Pauli sit bottom of the Bundesliga II, the German second division.
Potential signing Gonther is a 30-year-old centre-back who has made eight starts this season, and has played for St Pauli since 2012.
Leeds currently have good options at centre-back, and Gonther would add good depth on a free transfer, but if the club are successful in winning promotion then they may aspire to sign a player of higher calibre.
