According to German newspaper Express, Liverpool are not only interested in Jonathan Tah, but also his Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Julian Brandt.

The Reds are top of the Premier League table after 16 games, and with no European commitments to hold them back, they look like being a very real contender for the Premier League title.

Manager Jurgen Klopp may want to add a couple of new faces to his side in the January transfer window, and another winger could be on Klopp’s wishlist given that Sadio Mane will miss a chunk of the early stages of 2017 by heading to Gabon to represent Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Now, Express report that Klopp has indeed set his sights on a winger, and the man in question is Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt, with the report claiming that Klopp wants to challenge AC Milan, Juventus and Manchester City for his signature.

Brandt, 20, hit nine goals and three assists last season to become an important player with Leverkusen, and he’s notched one goal and two assists so far this term, continuing to show talent and potential.

The German doesn’t possess the world-class speed of Mane, but he’s quick for a 6ft 1in winger, whilst he also possesses direct dribbling ability too – something Liverpool will need without Mane.

Klopp has gone back to his native Germany three times in 2016 to sign players, as Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip have joined the club from Mainz, Augsburg and Schalke respectively, and winger Brandt could be the latest to leave the Bundesliga for Anfield if Klopp gets his way.

Whether Liverpool will be able to prise Brandt away from a Champions League club in Leverkusen remains to be seen, but Klopp will be very familiar with what Brandt can do, and the German press believe that he could launch a double raid for the winger and team-mate Jonathan Tah, with the centre back targeted to aid Liverpool’s back line.
