West Ham United were reportedly keen on Oostende striker Landry Dimata.

According to major German newspaper Bild, Wolfsburg beat off competition from Arsenal and West Ham United as they signed striker Landry Dimata.

Wolfsburg managed to stave off a shock relegation to the second division of German football with a play-off win over Eintracht Braunschweig, and are now looking to make summer additions to boost their squad.

With John Anthony Brooks, William and Marvin Stefaniak already added, Wolfsburg then swooped to sign Belgian striker Landry Dimata from Oostende earlier this week.

Bild report that Wolfsburg agreed a deal that could eventually be worth £8.8million, after the 19-year-old striker hit 14 goals in all competitions for Oostende last season.

The former Standard Liege youngster has emerged as one of the top young strikers in Europe, and it appears that Wolfsburg had to fend off considerable competition for Dimata’s signature.

Bild claim that Arsenal and West Ham were also interested in signing Dimata, but missed out as the teenager plumped for a move to Germany instead of a possible Premier League switch.

West Ham are certainly in the market for at least one new striker this summer given Slaven Bilic’s lack of quality options in attack, and having targeted a deal for Eupen’s Henry Onyekuru, it seems that they also wanted another Jupiler Pro League talent in Dimata.

Hammers fans may now keep an eye on Dimata’s progress in the Bundesliga to see whether they really missed out on a talented young striker, or whether they would have been wasting their money on another gamble in attack
