It is two weeks since Liverpool stunned Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.

Liverpool won the second leg 4-0 at Anfield, after losing the first leg 3-0.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has told Mundo Deportivo that he is still hurting after the shock loss.

He is at a loss to explain the defeat, which cost Barcelona a place in the final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Pique said: “Sure it was a mental block, but football was also missing. We missed everything. And they pressed very high, very intense, Anfield also played its role. We were not able [to cope].

“Sometimes happens. It was a very hard day. It has been hard to get up emotionally because the days passed and you do not forget the defeat. It is a setback that will last over time. But you have to take a step forward.”

“We do not have to torture ourselves. Yes that is one of our great defeats. But that’s the sport (…). It was a nightmare and you have to take it because it can happen again. But you have to understand why it happened and help us in the future because we want to lift the Champions League again.”

Despite their relentless domestic success, Barcelona have not won the Champions League since Pep Guardiola left the club.

In the meantime they have had to watch rivals Real Madrid win the trophy three times.

Liverpool reached the final last year and lost, and hope this season they can finally win the Champions League for the sixth time, and move past Barcelona, who have also won it five times.
