Watford hammered Chelsea 4-1 in the Premier League on Monday night.
Watford produced a stunning display to beat Chelsea 4-1 on Monday night, with Javi Gracia tasting a huge victory in his first game in charge.
The Hornets took a first half lead through Troy Deeney’s penalty, and whilst Eden Hazard struck an equaliser for Chelsea, Watford landed a flurry of goals in the final stages thanks to Daryl Janmaat, Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra.
Gracia will have been delighted with such a dominant performance in his first game, and he will have been particularly impressed with compatriot Deulofeu, who starred for Watford.
Deulofeu, 23, joined Watford on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season last week, and he produced a stunning display on his home debut to fire Watford to victory against Chelsea.
The Spanish wide man was bright, lively and direct throughout, committing the Chelsea defence on his way to score a fine goal; a welcome relief given his frustrating season with Barca this term.
Deulofeu played four key passes, proving himself as a creative force, whilst he also had four successful dribbles, the highest tally of any Watford player in a superb performance.
Given that Deulofeu’s performance was full of pace and flair, Everton fans will be left wondering just why they underutilised Deulofeu and eventually let him go, having been frozen out under Ronald Koeman.
Manager Sam Allardyce has been searching for pace and creativity in the final third, and whilst Deulofeu can be hit and miss with his end product, he showed for Watford that he has the attributes that Everton are lacking right now – and he will be looking to make even more of an impact between now and the end of the season.
