Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum has taken a shot at Everton.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has been quoted by the Daily Mail as saying that Everton ‘aren’t really competition’, which is why their rivalry with Manchester United is bigger.

The Reds have been impressive in 2018, dropping just five points in their eight league games since the turn of the year, making a Champions League spot almost inevitable.

Jurgen Klopp’s men surely won’t be able to catch Premier League leaders Manchester City, but can push to claim second place, with a huge game in that battle coming up this weekend.

Liverpool make the short trip to take on Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, with the Reds knowing that a win can take them above the Red Devils into second place.

It’s one of the biggest games of the season for Liverpool, despite the fact that Everton is their most local derby – and Georginio Wijnaldum has commented on the difference in the rivalries.

Wijnaldum has been quoted by the Daily Mail as saying that whilst facing Everton is a big game, it’s bigger for Everton because they ‘look up’ to Liverpool, whereas Liverpool are vying with United for silverware.

Wijnaldum added that Everton ‘are not really competition’ for Liverpool as the two teams have massively different objectives, in comments that won’t go down well at Goodison Park.

“Yes of course, Manchester United are one of the biggest teams in England,” said Wijnaldum. “The rivalry between us makes this game even better. The game against Everton is a big one, I think bigger for them because they look up to us and we are looking more to Manchester United because we are playing for the titles.”

“Maybe silly to say but Everton are not really a competition in the title for us so maybe that’s why we look differently to Everton than Manchester United,” he added.
