PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum would be keen to reunite with Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has told Sky Sports that he would be interested in a move to Manchester United.

Wijnaldum, 24, made his name with Feyenoord, but turned his back on the Rotterdam club in order to join Eredivisie rivals PSV in 2011.

In almost four years in Eindhoven, Wijnaldum has racked up 54 goals and 23 assists, establishing himself as one of the finest attacking midfielders in the Netherlands.

As a result, Wijnaldum has been a regular in the Dutch national team, even scoring at the World Cup against Brazil last summer.

That came under current Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, and Wijnaldum admitted in an interview with Sky Sports that he would interested in reuniting with van Gaal at Old Trafford.

“I am happy at PSV but I am a player with a lot of ambition. I want to play in a stronger league than the Eredivisie,” said Wijnaldum .”With my quality I feel I can bring a lot to a team that I will join. I want to show it in the big leagues; England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France.”

“Of course I would like to work with him [van Gaal] again. He is a good trainer, and makes players better. I work really fine with him and he is a great man. He gave me a chance and opportunity to play in a World Cup after seven months out injured, and I am thankful for that. He helped me get my confidence back,” he added.

Wijnaldum can play as an attacking midfielder or out wide, and his desire to play in the Premier League could alert van Gaal.

United still need starters and even depth options in midfield, and Wijnaldum would offer that, whilst also being familiar with van Gaal’s systems and tactics already.

It will now be interesting to see whether van Gaal acts on Wijnaldum’s words or not – especially given that United fans are largely expecting a bigger name midfielder to arrive this summer.
