Former Spurs winger Clinton N’Jie has shone since returning to France with Marseille – N’Koudou will hope to do the same.
It is easy to portray Clinton N’Jie as a flop at Tottenham Hotspur. But did the £12 million Cameroonian speedster (The Mirror) really get the opportunity he deserved?
N’Jie did not start a single Premier League game, after all, and his eight substitute appearances only amounted to 185 minutes on the pitch. After signing from Lyon in the summer of 2015, the young attacker needed far more time to adapt to a new league but manager Mauricio Pochettino seemed to give up hope almost immediately.
And the same fate has befallen another talented winger arriving in North London from France. Spurs were desperate to complete the signing of Marseille’s Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and finally got the £9.4 million deal done late last summer – 40 days after he had passed his medical, per The Guardian.
The wait, however, has been far from worth it so far. Like N’Jie, N’Koudou has made just eight substitute appearances in the Premier League – tallying just 49 minutes of action.
Ligue 1 lifeline
And N’Koudou will be hoping that a return to France with Claudio Ranieri’s Nantes will get his career back on track – it certainly had a positive effect on N’Jie.
After a loan spell at Marseille last season, N’Jie made his transfer permanent in the summer and has not looked back. With five goals in five games, he is in the form of his life right now and is outshining Dimitri Payet, Valere Germain and co at the Stade Velodrome.
Perhaps the only way Nkoudou can save his Spurs career is to embark on a similar resurgence across The Channel – if it starts with an impressive loan spell there could be hope for him yet in London.
