The winger finally made his Spurs bow in the 5-0 win over Gillingham in the EFL Cup.
Georges-Kevin Nkoudou has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that he is delighted to have finally made his debut for the club after returning to fitness, and admitted that he was surprised by the atmosphere at White Hart Lane.
Nkoudou joined Spurs from Marseille for around £11 million on transfer deadline day, but only made his debut on Wednesday as a second-half substitute in the 5-0 EFL Cup thrashing of Gillingham.
The 21-year-old will be hoping that his half-hour cameo is just the beginning of a bigger role to play in the coming weeks and months as he looks to make an instant impact in England.
With his debut coming in the EFL Cup, White Hart Lane was far from packed full as he entered the field, but he still admitted that he was surprised by the atmosphere inside the Spurs ground.
Nkoudou told the club’s website: “I’m very happy because I’ve come back from not playing for a long time so I really liked coming back to the pitch and feeling the atmosphere.
“It’s obviously my first game for Spurs and that makes me very happy, not only in a personal way but also in a collective way because we are through to the next stage of the cup.
“It was a very good atmosphere. It’s a cup game and all the fans were great. I was a bit surprised by the atmosphere but I enjoyed it a lot. I really liked playing alongside my new team-mates and hopefully now I can keep working hard and keep improving.”
Fellow new signings Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama have already made goalscoring impacts for the North London club this season.
Nkoudou will be desperate to follow in their footsteps and hit the ground running in England, rather than suffering a repeat of the fate of such disappointments as Clinton Njie.
