George Honeyman has suggested that he has held preliminary talks with Sunderland boss David Moyes regarding his future, and expects talks to resume this week over a potential new contract, the Chronicle reports.
Honeyman is out of contract at the Stadium of Light this summer, and has only made a handful of appearances for the Black Cats first-team.
However, with the 22-year-old impressing in the 2-0 win over Hull City at the weekend, some fans may feel that the academy graduate is very much deserving of a new deal. And while he was not able to shed much light on the situation, he certainly hinted that he would have few qualms about signing a new contract if Sunderland made an offer.
“I had initial talks with the gaffer the last couple of weeks and I think we’re sitting down again this week,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.

“That’s as much as I can say at the moment.
“I’ve been here since I was 11, I’ve seen it all even if I haven’t played that much, I just love playing for Sunderland, we’ll see what happens this week.”
With a Championship campaign on the horizon, Moyes will be surely be looking at the players who are out of contract and considering which are likely to be able to make an impact in the second tier to help the Black Cats make their stay in the division below as brief as possible.

Given Honeyman’s clear passion for the club and promising displays in recent weeks, he would arguably be an ideal player to have around the squad.
And if he can build on the promise he has shown, then he will somewhat feel like a new signing next season given how little he has played in the first-team this year.
