George Honeyman has told the Chronicle that Sunderland’s players were all saying how much they had missed the winning feeling, after they finally picked up their second league victory of the season at the weekend.

Sunderland won 2-0 against Burton Albion to end their long wait for a victory.

And Honeyman, who scored Sunderland’s second goal in the game, said that everyone in the dressing room was discussing how good it felt to come off the Pirelli Stadium pitch victorious.

“All the lads in the dressing room were saying how much we’d missed this feeling,” the young midfielder said.

“We’ll enjoy it for now, then go again on Saturday and try to get another one (at home to Reading) because it’s the feeling in football, winning.”

Sunderland have been under huge pressure to end their wait for a win recently, so Chris Coleman’s side’s victory was very much welcomed.

Coleman has injected some optimism back into the Black Cats, and they will be looking to move away from trouble as quickly as possible now.

Sunderland are off the bottom of the Championship table, but they are still in the relegation zone.

Sunderland are next in action on Saturday, when they take on Reading at the Stadium of Light.
